Post Apocalyptic Fairytales
My senior project. This one was a doozy to get started on, but I ended up having a BLAST. I did a lot of research on fairytales, and I decided to enrich our typical knowledge of these fairytales by giving them a cultural twist. For example, Hansel and Gretel are both given Afro-punk vibes, and Hansel has an element from the German version of the tale, if I remember correctly. Some characters are connected such as Cheolsoo and Jack Spriggin, whom I made a father-son duo, but otherwise, these are standalone characters.
I also had the Dullahan (Headless Horseman) and Gretel...but I'll have to find them.
It's easy to tell where this one comes from. One version of the fairytale says that Hansel used white stones to mark the way home.
Based on Jack and the Beanstalk. Jack always seemed like a moody teen to me in the story, so that's who I turned him into.
Baba Yaga takes some inspiration from the episode "SUITS" in Love Death and Robots. The old lady is so funny and memorable to me that I had to include her somehow!
This one was a little easier to do since she's so familiar to us. I love the dynamic of a little kid with a lot of tough energy.
Cheolsoo is the Japanese? version of Jack Frost (please forgive me if I'm wrong!). I love the description of Jack being an artist, so I tried to incorporate it here.
Santa Claus with a big freaking hammer? Who doesn't want that? Mr. Nick is one of those guys who knows how to get you what you need...for a price.
Constantine was one of the names given to the legendary Puss in Boots. Combine that with Rocket Raccoon and you've got a recipe for awesomeness on your hands.
I knew I wanted a vehicle for the group, but I wasn't sure how to do that until I was reminded of the Princess and the Frog. A giant frog is just the thing to tie the party together.
